The Story of the Renault Card Key
The hands-free card is one of the most significant inventions ever to change the way people use cars. renault car key replacement , Head Cross-Cutting Products for Renault Group Products takes us through the background and development of this small device.
The history behind the card

A key element in the lives of car owners The hands-free card of Renault has become a global phenomenon. It was first designed over twenty years ago and is now one of the company's most popular innovations. Pascaline, the Head of Cross-Cutting Products in the Products division will take you on a journey of discovery in order to find out the background of this useful accessory.
In 2001 the Laguna II, an executive saloon that was designed to be a 'lifestyle vehicle", was launched into production. It was an era of incredible innovation, with various new equipment capabilities that let customers enjoy their vehicles to the maximum.
However, the owners of the cars had to use keys to open and close their doors. Renault engineers were determined that this was a huge problem for many.
So, they decided to integrate the use of a contactless keycard into their vehicles and develop a system that would enable motorists to open and start their cars by simply waving hands. The result is the card key, which is now on two in three Renault vehicles. The car will be unlocked automatically when the card is placed near the ignition barrel, or the central console. This is a genuine Renault remote control keycard (without the blade). It comes individually packed and is ready to programme using Abrites diagnostics for Renault/ Dacia software with the ProTAG programmer.
The design
A Renault key card, or even a remote car key, is a great feature to have in our everyday lives. Unfortunately, these things are susceptible to failure due to ware and tear or simply being dropped. When this occurs, it can be quite stressful. Thankfully, there are several options to replace your Renault key card. One option is to contact your dealership. However, this could take a long time and it could also be costly. A professional locksmith is a different option.

This is an authentic Renault part and can only be used on the vehicle for which it was ordered. Please supply your VIN when you place an order to ensure that the right key is supplied.
The technology
Renault keys have transponder chips, as well as a low-frequency communication feature. This enables the card to talk to your car. The chips are susceptible to cracking due the use of common sense and it could be costly to have them repaired or replaced at a dealership. We can repair or replace your Renault key card at only a fraction of the dealer cost.
The hands-free card first appeared in 2001, in the Laguna II saloon. This car was designed as the car that would be the most desirable of the 21st century. Renault was unable to test every possible application despite a detailed design brief built on over 6,000 phone calls with customers.
Luckily, the lead product developer on Laguna II, Bernard Dumondel was in an hotel at the time, and used his room key to open his car. He was of the opinion that a car key could be created with the same magnetic strip used for the key.
In the years following, the card was hailed as a groundbreaking invention, and it is now available in two out of three Renault vehicles. While smartphones seem to be nearing the point of replacing it, Renault has chosen to utilize these new technologies without letting the hands-free card slip to the side.
The keyless entry system
Renault's hands-free card was a revolutionary piece of technology when it was introduced twenty years ago. The exterior is identical but the technology has been upgraded to make it easier to use and more secure to hack.
It can't be used to open the doors or start the engine from outside the vehicle, unless it is activated by the driver. The reason for this is that radio signal antennae "around" the vehicle are programmed to detect if the key is outside or inside it. The key will still work from a distance to start the car's ignition but not to unlock the doors, and that's for your security.
Second, the wireless remote control transmissions used by the system use a rolling-code. This reduces the likelihood of someone intercepting a control message and retransmitting it in order to gain access, but doesn't remove it. [1]
